Paradise Valley - Chopra Center partnership

Squamish, British Columbia – January 10, 2010 – Paradise Valley Wellness Center has entered into a new partnership with the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, to open a treatment center for various addictions. Located in the natural setting of Squamish BC, which lies between Whistler and Vancouver, the center is nested on 10 acres of natural landscape and is open to adult men and women who are looking for treatment for various addictions including alcoholism, illicit drug use, gambling, sexual addictions, internet addictions, nicotine, prescription drug abuse, and eating disorders.

The new rehab center is headed by addiction specialist and founder of Paradise Valley Nirmala Raniga who had this to say about her center’s collaboration with the Chopra center: “We’re excited about collaborating with the Chopra Center to help those who have tried many times to overcome an addiction but ultimately returned to destructive behaviors because they hadn’t addressed the underlying cause of their addiction”.

The center aims to help all aspects of the individual to strengthen the recovery process such as physical health, along with emotional and psychological health as well. As a result, Paradise Valley uses a rehab method that combines traditional eastern wisdom with the breakthroughs of modern medical science. It is with this in mind that the center will be employing a treatment program created by Chopra Center co founders David Simon, MD and Deepak Chopra, MD.

The approach used in this program is described in detail in their book “Freedom from Addiction” and was summarized by Dr. David Simon: “The root of every addiction, whether you are addicted to alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, toxic relationships, gambling, sex, food, or anything else, is a need to find comfort and relief from anxiety, painful memories, emptiness, and many other difficult emotions.”
