How do I keep in touch with family and friends?

Telephone and Email

We recognize you may wish to stay in touch with friends, family or your workplace, and people may want to know how you are doing! In respect to your right for confidentiality, we require you to create a list of people whom you wish to stay in touch while you are at the centre. If any of the people phone, only if they are on the list, will we acknowledge that you are a resident of the wellness centre. Your friends and family may leave messages for you at administration and these messages will be passed on to you.

Phone, Internet, Computer and Ipod (music) Use: We support you to limit your weekly use of the combined items and require that they not be utilized when daytime sessions are scheduled. However, we welcome the use of Ipods in the gym while working out. We want you to succeed with your goals, and we want you to have an opportunity to practice using phones and internet use in a manner that fits with wellness.

If you don’t have a cell-phone, or have decided not to bring one, there will be a phone available for you to use. Please be sure to bring a calling card for making any long distance calls. A computer for guests is also provided at the centre, for access after 5:00pm.

A personal plan regarding phone-calls and email is expected to be created with your individual counsellor where your situation and goals are considered. Email messages may be printed out and given to you. We request limiting your emails because of the time consumed in attending to them.

Mail and Correspondence

In most situations , we encourage healthy communication with your family and others close to you. Letter writing is encouraged, and you may want to bring personal stationary and stamps for this purpose. In order to ensure safety for all, we routinely require incoming mail and any packages to be opened in the presence of a staff member.

Can I have visitors?

You may invite visitors after the first week of your stay at the centre. We believe the intensity of your initial assessment, stabilization, and treatment planning in the first week requires the complete focus of both you and the clinical team.

Potential visitors can be discussed with your counsellor in the first week of treatment. The clinical team retains the right to screen and decline any visitations that are believed to be counter-therapeutic. Family and friends who are supportive of your wellness are greatly encouraged to be involved in your healing process.

Approved visiting and family programming is available at the Centre on weekends only. Any unauthorized visit outside of the scheduled program time will be declined.
